Culture fans, listen up: WRITE Festival is back for 2019, with a jam-packed programme of unmissable events and activities over one fantastic fortnight, all celebrating the written word in its many, glorious forms.
The festival, which will see a number of talks from authors, live theatrical performances, events, workshops and family-friendly activities, runs from 11th–24th May. As with the last two festivals, much of WRITE Festival will be based at the multi-award winning The Word – South Shields’ cultural hub – with their exceptional events space on the top floor of the building, The Round, playing host to some of the biggest names on the festival’s bill.
Best-selling authors Mark Billingham and Erin Kelly will close the WRITE Festival on 24th May with an evening of entertaining and hilarious stories. Mark is an award- winning author, comedian, writer for TV and TV/ Radio presenter with boundless energy and character who loves to entertain an audience. He has sold more than 4.5 million books worldwide and will be reading from his latest crime novel,Their Little Secret, published 2nd May 2019.
Erin is a Sunday Times bestselling author who’s novel He Said/ She Said spent six weeks in the top 10 in paperback and hardback, as well as a freelance journalist who has written for the likes of The Guardian,The Sunday Times, Cosmopolitan, Red and more. Erin will be reading from her latest novel Stone Mothers, published in April 2019.
