An education and fashion industry expert has joined Cleveland College of Art & Design as subject area leader to develop an exciting new course. From September, students will have the option to study Body Contour Fashion, a degree that encourages conceptual approaches to contour fashion, including lingerie, structured bodywear, swimwear and activewear, while pushing the boundaries of design.
The new three-year course would suit ‘a more specialist student who doesn’t want to just study fashion, but wants to work specifically with body contour garments,’ explains Dr Carol Harris, who previously held the position of Professor of Fashion at the prestigious Savannah College of Design in Savannah, Georgia. Carol’s academic career spans almost twenty years and has seen her working alongside the likes of Jay Alexander (runway coach for Alexander McQueen) and freelancing for Calvin Klein.
‘It is a unique course,’ she continues. ‘Its only one of three such courses in the UK. The curriculum [involves] design and creative solutions, technical skills, drawing, problem solving and industrial process.’ There will also be opportunities for students to work with big names nationally and internationally such as Nike, Michelle Taylor or locally Tallulah Love and Berghaus on live projects and potential work experience.
It’s set to be an exciting programme and we’re looking forward to seeing where the course takes its students after studying at the northern arts college.
