Palate Freshener: rooftops and pop-ups

This time: Newcastle's first fresh pasta bar, a mysterious pop-up in Leeds, and rooftop cocktails at the latest hip Hull hangout

If you like: Quality fast food
Then try: Zucchini, Newcastle
This place bills itself as the first fresh pasta bar in the North East, working with traditional methods and a potent combo of Italian and local ingredients to make proper high-grade fast food that’s a) genuinely tasty an b) genuinely not going to send your cholesterol levels into a tizzy. Note: they do two services from 12pm until 3pm and from 4pm until 8pm, so don’t blame us if you roll up and spend 45 minutes staring in through the windows and wailing.

If you like: A little bit of mystery
Then try: King Street Social, Leeds
Well we say Leeds, but according to its Twitter bio it’s ‘of no fixed abode’. That’s because it’s a wandering ‘members only’ pop-up which trailed its with an excitingly oblique/mildly irritating (delete as applicable) Twitter campaign that felt like it might never actually end. The first one’s on 4 and 5 August, and features the super-talented Anton Piotrowski of Röski in Liverpool. They’ve got more theatrical events and unique experiences in the pipeline.

If you like: Having a pint at a slightly greater elevation than you’re accustomed to
Then try: 64 at Humber Street Gallery, Hull
There’s a panoramic rooftop bar at the quirkily industrial bar in this art space which has views toward The Deep, Hull Minster and the Humber itself. The menu is weighted toward local craft beers and funkily upscale cocktails.
