Sandwiches
Whether you like a BLT, tuna and mayo or a fish finger sandwich - this week is for all sandwiches to be celebrated. We’ve put our loaves together and come up with the best places to get your filling of sandwich superiority in the North East

Chilli Cake Deli
Here they let you choose during every step of the way. Pick your favourite bread and fill it up. Their menu has some great selections too; the Truffle Man fillings catch our eye in particular. Hot chicken, black pudding, watercress and mustard mayo topped with a drizzle of truffle oil – pig out.

Chillipepper Sandwiches & More
Open since 2009, Chillipepper pride themselves on using first-class produce to make top quality sandwiches. Most recently they had a chicken tikka rice box as their special of the week. Keep an eye out for their sandwich of the week too; they’re definitely worth giving a go.

Dene’s Deli
Dene’s Deli has been a stalwart of Jesmond for over 25 years and have just scooped Independent Sandwich Retailer of the Year in The Sammies Awards 2017. They encourage you to customise and personalise your sandwich as much as possible – nothing is too much trouble. But if you’re in more of a rush, why not pick something a little wilder. If you like spicy, the kamikaze chicken should do the trick.

The Jolly Fisherman
As famous sandwiches go, The Jolly Fisherman probably has one of the best-known in the North East. Their crab sandwich is legendary in these parts, but take nothing away from their other seafood sandwiches. Their salmon and prawn options are the unsung heroes.

McKeith’s
Highly recommended by locals, McKeith’s is an absolute winner around Sunderland. It is very reasonably priced, offering a fantastic selection of sandwiches and snacks. The jacket potatoes in particular are hot favourites.
