Visit a local farm this Open Farm Sunday—it’s farming fun for all the family

Have you ever considered the journey your food makes before it lands on your table? Why worms are so vital for the soil? Or how to care for a newborn lamb? Now is your chance to find out!

The 10th of June is LEAF Open Farm Sunday, which see’s hundreds of farms across the country open their gates to the public for a fun and informative day out, with something for everyone to enjoy. Use this unique opportunity to learn first hand about the day-to-day lives of our local farmers, and challenge them with your unanswered questions. 

Most Open Farm Sunday events are free for you to enjoy, and some require a small donation. Whether you’re keen to find out how technology is improving the sustainability of farming or get muddy on the tractor and trailer rides, farm walks, bug hunts or lamb feeding and milking demonstrations, farms of all scales and sizes across the region are getting ready to share their extensive farming knowledge with you. Just pack your wellies!

Take a tractor ride to see the Aberdeen Angus cattle, watch the sheep dogs in action, or see the laying hens.

Embark on a tractor ride with a running commentary as you’re guided around the farm. Enjoy the Milking Parlour experience as you see exactly where milk comes from. Then see exactly how the Jersey milk is turned into delicious ice cream in the ice cream-making hub. Don’t forget to sample it in the Parlour before you leave!
