Classic mojito
Brighten up a cold week with creative cocktails in Newcastle, a blast from the past in Eaglescliffe and a good boogie in Sunderland

MONDAY NIGHT
Don’t let Monday get you down, wrap up and head for some hearty food at the Northumberland Arms. Try the delicious homemade pie and fluffy mash, or treat yourself to a scrumptious steak. Forget those New Year’s resolutions and leave the diet at the door.

TUESDAY
The 60th anniversary of LEGO patenting that iconic brick design arrives this month, and what better way to celebrate than seeing some intricate historical scenes made from your favourite childhood toy? Brick History, currently showing at Preston Park Museum, Eaglescliffe, is an exhibition that charts key moments in the history of the world from the Big Bang right up to today, all in Lego.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT
Warm up your Wednesday night with a few drinks at Night Caps in Newcastle – founder Joe Meagher secured an alcohol licence late last year to expand his hipster hangout Flat Caps Coffee, making it one of the businesses to watch in 2018. Open 5pm to midnight, Wednesday to Saturday, it’s all about classy cocktails and camembert here. Say farewell to Dry January.

THURSDAY NIGHT
Beat the January blues with a Night on Broadway at the Sunderland Empire. This special show tells the story of the Bee Gees, paying tribute to the music of the Gibb brothers with a fantastic performance of their most famous songs from the 60s to the 90s. Experience Saturday Night Fever on a Thursday night – it’d be a Tragedy to miss it.
