MAKE MY WEEK... | Living North

Ice skating
This week we’re chasing away the Monday blues with some delicious food, getting our skates on, partying with Jay Gatsby, and of course, bringing you your fair share of festive activities

We know it’s only Monday, but why not treat yourself – it is almost Christmas after all. It’s steak night at Butcher & Catch in Sheffield, so save yourself the washing up and let them do the cooking for you. Enjoy one of their prime cuts, served with chips and garlic butter, as well as a glass of house wine – go on, you’ve earned it.

Packed with all of the traditional pantomime ingredients that audiences expect, this year’s annual offering from the Darlington Hippodrome is sure not to disappoint, as the classic tale of the Arabian street rat (turned prince) is given a fresh coat of theatrical paint.

London’s longest-running immersive theatre show is returning to York this Christmas, after it was first produced by Yorkshire-based playwright and director, Alexander Flanagan Wright, over three years ago. It’s the roaring twenties – an era of bootleg liquor, red hot jazz and hedonistic pleasures. Jay Gatsby has invited you to one of his infamous parties and it’s not an invite you’re going to want to turn down.

Lace up your skates and head to Alnwick Garden for a fabulous skating experience in one of the most picturesque skating spots in the North East. Your skating ticket includes access into The Alnwick Garden itself, so wrap up warm and enjoy an afternoon of fun and laughter with the whole family.
