MAKE MY WEEKEND... | Living North

From raising a glass to a worthy cause, taking in an all-new exhibition, and kicking back to enjoy a late night drink, to Sunday morning surfing and (of course) a foodie festival, we’ve planned your perfect weekend

Think pink this Friday as the Gillygate Pub in York host their annual celebration drinking all things pink in aid of Breast Cancer Now. Join their resident wine expert for a fabulous evening – what could be better than raising a glass for a worthy cause?

Lazy mornings have their place, but throw your curtains wide this Saturday and let the light in. Head to Carlisle’s Tullie House Museum and Art Gallery to discover some of the north’s finest artists on the opening day of this year’s New Light Prize exhibition. Fast becoming one of the UK’s largest open exhibitions and showcasing the region’s hottest talents, the exhibition has everything from hyper-real to abstract works, print-making to sculpture and is sure to be an enlightening experience.

If you’re feeling in the mood for somewhere a little different this Saturday eve, why not try the oh-so charming Maison du Vin. Functioning as a wine bar, café lounge, boutique drinks emporium and wine school all under one roof, Maison du Vin celebrates the very best of wines, gins and spirits from across the globe, offering you the chance to unwind in a relaxed setting in the very heart of the historic Malton.

Who said Sundays should be lazy? Wake up with a splash – straight into the North Sea for a surf lesson with Yonder surf. Fulled by a passion for surfing and the independence, beauty and lifestyle that accompanies it, Yonder aim to pass on skills and confidence to others from their base in Tynemouth.

The best of Yorkshire’s considerable culinary talents will be on show at Filey Evron Centre, along with a host of tasty tidbits including, olives and oil, artisan pates, bay view honey, Yorkshire gin & vodka, free-range Yorkshire chorizo and other meats, fresh seafood, and street food from all over the world. All to be washed down with a real ale, cider or prosecco. What more could you want?
