On 20 October people all over the country will be donning their favourite shade of pink, be that salmon or hot, to raise money for breast cancer research

Wear It Pink — Breast Cancer Now’s flagship event — is hitting the UK on 20 October and asking people, you guessed it, to wear the colour pink. Whether it’s a pastel pink tie at work, or Barbie pink PJs on the sofa, all you have to do is pull on some pink and make a donation.

Since its inception in 2002, the event has raised £30 million for vital breast cancer research. The money raised will go to helping the charity achieve its aim that by 2050 nobody will die from breast cancer. It’s not just the money that is important, the event also raises awareness of the statistics, risks and warning signs related to breast cancer.

Lottie Barnden, Senior Fundraising Products Manager at Breast Cancer Now, explains the importance of this event:

‘Right now breast cancer is at a tipping point. Every year in the UK around 50,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer, and sadly around 11,500 women and 80 men will lose their lives to the disease. This is why we are urging everyone to get involved in wear it pink this Friday 20 October to raise funds for vital breast cancer research, to stop breast cancer taking the lives of those we love.

‘We know how much fun people have when they take part in wear it pink and we look forward to hearing all about the ways people across the UK are planning to fundraise and take part this year.’

So what are you waiting for? Swap your boring burgundy or neutral navy for something a little brighter and a lot more influential.
