Jar of preserves
These places go above and beyond to get the very best produce from Yorkshire and beyond

Bakes & Co
78–80 Gillygate, York YO31 7EQ
01904 613875
www.bakes.co

This chic deli and coffee bar serving Malton-roasted Roost coffee is strong on top-grade sandwiches, quiches, salads, bakes (the artisan sausage rolls deserve an entry on their own) and frankly staggering cakes. Grab one of their legendary ginger crunches and realise what elevenses is truly for.

Hunters of Helmsley
13 Market Place, Helmsley YO62 5BL
www.huntersofhelmsley.com

Delis don’t come better than Hunters of Helmsley, who’ve been selling some of Yorkshire’s finest produce for over 25 years. Think peppery salami, artisan cheese, homemade pastries, and local ice cream – the perfect picnic. Go on, you deserve it.

The Local Pantry Shop and Café
Harrogate Road, Leathley near Pool, Otley LS21 2PS
0113 203 7361
www.thelocalpantry.co.uk

Stocked by local suppliers, you’ll find Yorkshire blue cheese, Holme Farm venison and fresh vegetables from B Whiteley’s of Pudsey at The Local Pantry.

Mr Pickles
240 Abbeydale Road,
Sheffield S7 1FL 0114 258 8805
www.mrpicklesfoodstore.co.uk

A shop with a philosophy is usually apt to send our hipster detector into bleeping spasms, but making Yorkshire’s best produce accessible to everyone is a deeply noble cause. Dairy, meat, fish, fruit, veg, beers, wines, spirits – it’s all local, and it’s all quality.

Malton Relish Delicatessen
58 Market Place, Malton YO17 7LW
01653 699389
www.maltonrelish.co.uk

Feast your eyes (and your tastebuds) on the cornucopia of culinary delights on offer at Relish, an award-winning North Yorkshire delicatessen. As well as the usual favourites, they stock specialist ranges for vegans, vegetarians and those on a gluten-free diet. Join Relish for one of their monthly Supper Clubs and celebrate the very best of local cuisine.

Out Of The Woods
113 Water Lane, Leeds LS11 5WD 0113 244 8123
Watermans Place, Granary Wharf, Leeds LS1 4GL 0113 245 4144
www.outofthewoods.me.uk

The two outlets of Out of the Woods (which pre-date Taylor Swift’s song of the same name, so we reckon they could be in for a pretty hefty royalty cheque) were set up to right a wrong: poor access to good-quality local food. Stocking items from around the area, including baked goods from Gilchrists, milk from Acorn Dairies and sweet stuff from White Rose Bakes, they’re living up to their goal.

Weetons Food Hall and Restaurant
23–24 West Park, Harrogate HG1 1BJ
01423 507100
www.weetons.com

A real high-end deli-café, Weetons shelved are stacked high with excellent produce while the restaurant is a great spot for brunch. Using ingredients from local producers wherever possible, the dishes on offer are a real treat. Try the Yorkshire rarebit.
