Brewery tours aren’t just for boring beardy uncles anymore – brewing’s really cool, so drop in on a new wave of breweries across Yorkshire

Magic Rock
When you think about it, the fact that the Huddersfield brewery with the funky cans has managed to become not just successful and brilliant but one of the coolest breweries in the country – seriously, even people in That London are mad for it – is both unlikely and fantastic. Find out how on their Saturday afternoon tours.

Black Sheep Brewery
Ah, Black Sheep. How many times have you saved us when, in an unfamiliar pub in an unfamiliar town, we’ve lit upon your reassuring pump clip at the end of the bar and known that everything might just be alright? The least we can do as you celebrate a quarter-century of brewing is visit you in your home and learn your secrets in your traditional brewhouse.

Brewtown Tours
Too hype for hops to contain yourself to just one brewery? Brewtown’s tours show you around multiple examples around Leeds and York, including some of Yorkshire’s best-kept brewing secrets. Founder Mark Stredwick’s sipped his way around America and Australia, and really knows his cascade from his chinook. Those are hops by the way, you philistine.

Brass Castle
With the vegan revolution in full cry, it’s perhaps inevitable that it would come for beer too – everything here’s vegan and veggie friendly. The tours here are winningly informal: just pop in any time, have a chat about the beers, and a member of staff will show you around for free. Between the nix on animal products and the way their spent hops and grain are recycled into useful environmentally-friendly ventures, there’s a lot to chat about.

The Sheffield Brewery Co
Right, brewery tours are brilliant and everything – obviously, as this little guide has proved conclusively – but sometimes you want more. Sure, you can get a tour around this characterful building with an optional pie and pea supper, and sure, it’s fascinating and fun. But really, what you want is to become a brewer for a whole day, getting a the full picture of what it is to have The World’s Greatest Job. Do it here. Live the dream.
