Independently ranked as the joint highest-rated 10 furlong race in Europe last year, the Group 1 Juddmonte International is the richest race run at York – with £1 million on offer to the horse seeking to follow such superstars as Frankel or Sea the Stars into the Winner’s Enclosure on the opening day. It’s a stunning line up and honours will go to an exceptional horse.
DARLEY YORKSHIRE OAKS AND LADIES DAY
Arguably the social highlight of the festival, the Darley Yorkshire Oaks and Ladies Day also see fantastic prizes up for grabs on the Ebor Fashion Lawn alongside what is regularly the highest-rated mare and fillies race in Europe – with a £350,000 feature there for the taking. The 2018 winners of each of the English (Forever Together), Irish (Sea of Class) and French (Laurens) Oaks are set to unite for what promises to be a classic confrontation. Make sure you dress to impress, too.
Race into the weekend with the festival’s fastest race on Friday: the Group 1 Coolmore Nunthorpe, ranked the joint best sprint in the world last season. Looking set to justify that billing again, this year will offer a potential showdown between the world’s highest-rated sprinter, Battaash, and the exceptional winner of the Diamond Jubilee at Royal Ascot, Blue Point – who will each compete (alongside most likely 18 other entrants) for the £350,000 purse. And as a special bonus, don’t miss the epic efforts of Stradivarius as he seeks to play his rivals a merry tune and win a one million pound bonus in the process.
SKY BET EBOR
The festival will come to its climax on Saturday in spectacular fashion with the Sky Bet Ebor – York Racecourse’s oldest and most famous race. With the feature contest for four year olds and upwards becoming the joint richest flat handicap in Europe – with prize money of £500,000 – the day will also feature the richest apprentice race in the land, as emerging riders prepare to compete for £70,000.
The Yorkshire Ebor Festival 2018 will take place at York Racecoure between 22nd–25th August.
