Raby Castle Park And Gardens

Raby Castle Park And Gardens

The castle is framed by 200 acres of parkland, but the highlight is the 18th century Walled Garden created to grow herbs for medicines. Many of the original features remain in the gardens, including two yew hedges and the ornamental pond constructed to provide water to the Kitchen Garden. In the centre of the south terrace you’ll find a grand wrought iron gate bearing the monogram of the 1st Lord Barnard, designed in the early 18th century and placed in situ in 1894.

Must see: The grounds of Raby Castle are famed for the roaming red and fallow deer, preserved in this area since the Norman times.
