Allendale

from
Allendale

The town of Allendale is well known for its tearooms, variety of accommodation, small shops and pubs, which are popular with walkers who flock to the nearby Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty where there are both trailed walks and areas to ramble. Surrounded by the North Pennines, the town was formerly a lead mining centre, and provided inspiration to Northumberland’s very own Catherine Cookson. A picturesque location for lazy summer days, and the unusual Tar Barrel celebration on New Year’s Eve is also well worth seeing.
