Do you ever look at your child and envy their flexibility? Quell your jealousy and take them along to a baby or toddler yoga class to help them develop in a huge number of ways. Benefits include improved digestion, increased body awareness and confidence, improved muscle strength, better coordination and motor skills, increased balance and concentration, and deeper sleep (that last one sold it for you, didn’t it?). On top of all that, you’ll get extra time to bond with your little one and boost the levels of communication between the two of you.
PUDDLE DUCKS NORTH EAST
Get them used to the water early – you’ll be glad of it when you start taking them to hotels with swimming pools. Puddle Ducks North East provides swimming classes for babies and pre-school children. The classes involve everything from games to songs, all designed to help get your child confident and independent in the water.
It’s never too early to start their educational development. Baby Sensory helps children learn and develop from birth to 13 months old. Backed up by 35 years of expert research into childhood development, classes involve ideas for play, massage, tummy time, movement, visual development, hand-eye coordination and music that are all designed to help your child learn, and that can be practised at home.
It may feel like your baby already rocks and rolls all night, rather than doing the decent thing and going to sleep, so why not encourage them to do their singing in the day time instead? Music Bugs classes centre around music as a tool for child development and use nursery rhymes, counting songs, knee bouncing numbers and finger-play rhymes to help them do so. Props including pom poms and percussive instruments are also provided so things may get a little loud.
There’s a little bit of everything going on here – there are classes on children’s stories which include fun designing activities and imaginative play, classes on tumble play for your little climbers, as well as dance, music movement and more. Whichever class you go for, your little jittabug will have a whale of a time.
THE CREATION STATION
Nurture your child’s inner Picasso at a class that involves painting and model and collage-making. It’s all about having a go and letting your child’s imagination run wild – you’ll be surprised what they come out with.
Dance City’s weekly family dance class runs every Saturday morning from 10–11am. They promote coordination, movement and imaginative play, all informed by research into childhood development. These classes are designed for children up to the age four and their parents or carers.
