Your go-to places for locally-sourced, craft beers

Enigma Tap
60 Bedford Street, North Shields NE29 0AL
www.facebook.com/EnigmaTap

Named in honour of Thomas Brown, the North Shields man who played a crucial role in breaking the Enigma Code, Enigma Tap is the first micro pub in the area. You’ll find no generic branding here, only locally-sourced craft beers from independent businesses, as well as a good range of low-alcohol options.

The Town Mouse Ale House
St Mary's Place, Newcastle upon Tyne NE1 7PG
www.townmousealehouse.co.uk

This former coffee shop is now a micropub, and serves the best high-quality keg and cask beers from the North East, bar snacks that are locally produced and a selection of ciders, wines, perries and soft drinks for you to choose from. Come here for an escape from the hustle and bustle of the city centre in a sociable and friendly atmosphere.

ORB Micropub
Coniscliffe Road, Darlington DL3 7RG
07395 832354 www.orchardroadbrewery.co.uk

As Darlington’s first micropub, Orchard Road Brewery sets the bar high – providing a selection of excellent local real ales, craft beers and single malt whiskies, as well as bottled beers, wines, spirits and soft drinks. This micropub aims to involve its customers, and helps them to find their perfect pint, allowing them to taste the drinks on offer.

The Station House
North Road, Durham DH1 4SE
www.stationhousedurham.co.uk

This micropub aims to have something for everyone’s taste – from something dark such as porter and stout, to something pale and low strength. Interestingly, they choose to serve their beer straight out of the keg, without any hand pulls – this older method of serving beer gives this micropub a more traditional feel.

Left Luggage Room Monkseaton
Norham Road, Monkseaton NE26 3NR
www.leftluggageroom.co.uk

Set in a former parcel and left luggage room in Monkseaton Station, this micropub prides itself on its lack of cheap lager and televisions. It instead promotes great conversation and excellent craft beers – all to be enjoyed in quirky surroundings complete with an industrial parquet floor and rustic seating.

The Split Chimp
Spanish City, Whitley Bay NE26
www.splitchimp.pub

This popular micropub has excellent real ales, great pub snacks and pub games. The Split Chimp has a real home away from home feel, and has beautiful views of the sea to be enjoyed in their outside space.

Cock & Bull
Amble, Morpeth NE65 0DQ
www.cockandbullpub.co.uk

This new micropub opened its doors earlier this summer, and serves cask ales and craft beers supplied by local breweries. They also serve cheese boards, with a choice of six Northumbrian cheeses, served with grapes & chutney.

The Office
Castle Square, Morpeth NE61 1YL
07957 721066 www.facebook.com/TheOfficeMorpeth

Head to The Office in Morpeth for its cosy atmosphere and a great selection of cask ales and beers, supplied by local breweries such as Rigg & Furrow in Acklington, and Credence Brewing in Amble. This micropub has no music, and instead encourages conversation and community.

The Curfew
Bridge St, Berwick-upon-Tweed TD15 1AQ
07842 912268 www.facebook.com/curfewmicropub

With a wide selection of cask and craft beers that are constantly changing, bar snacks and a cosy atmosphere – this micropub also has a great beer garden, perfect for enjoying your drinks in the sun and is also dog friendly.
