Then try: The Mule on Rouge, Berwick-Upon-Tweed
This coffee house-come vinyl cafe, offers everything from falafel bagels to smoked fish tarts and all are packed with fresh locally sourced product. Providing sweet offerings too, try their mother-of-all loaf cakes, the sticky date loaf – and don’t leave without giving your favourite album a spin in their listening booth.

If you like: Homemade Goodness
Then try: The Garage Ncl, Newcastle
A unique space and a great place to enjoy homemade food, from brunch to a lamb stew, via scotch eggs and summer salads. Perfectly parked in a former MOT garage, the team here have made it a cosy destination, so sit in, take out, or bag a table in the sunshine (while you still can).

If you like: Coffee and Carbs
Then try: Steam Yard, Sheffield
Here they do sweet treats you never even knew you wanted to try – cruffin anyone? Thats a croissant-come-muffin to you and me. The doughnuts aren’t to be missed either, oozing with nutella, jam, Portuguese custard or salted caramel, they’re freshly-baked clouds of doughy joy – kick back in the courtyard or pick up a box to go.
