Palate Freshener

From modern bistros to Italian family favourites, we take a look at the top foodie picks of this week

If you like: Bistro delights

Then try: ROUTE, Newcastle

Since it opened this summer in the heart of Newcastle city centre, ROUTE has been specialising in British small-plate style cuisine. Having recently been awarded a Bib Gourmand by the prestigious Michelin Guide, the menu is specifically designed with sharing in mind and is perfect for those who are passionate about great flavours. We’ll be trying the Goosnargh duck breast, served with carrot, orange, radicchio and smoked eel.

If you like: Pub grub with a twist

Then try: The Fox Pub & Restaurant, Menston

Located in the picturesque village of Menston, The Fox is a pub, bar and restaurant that has been serving the people of Ilkley, Otley and Menston for the past 200 years. Diners are in for a treat with a wide selection of British dishes with a truly Mediterranean twist, including options such as their roasted pork belly and seared scallops, served with potato dauphinoise, butternut squash purée, green beans and toasted almonds. With The Fox having recently undergone a makeover, restaurant goers can expect tasteful and contemporary interiors all with a generous dose of the famous Yorkshire charm.

If you like: A taste of Italy

Then try: La Famiglia, Amble

Located on Amble’s historic Queen Street, La Famiglia offers diners traditional Italian family favourites with a distinct Northumberland influence. This restaurant is all about producing great, authentic flavours. If you’re a lover of seafood, why not try their king prawns and courgette ribbons? Served in a hot tomato, white wine and chive sauce, it would make the perfect accompaniment to a chilled glass of wine when winding down with friends at the end of the working week.
