If you like: Authentic Spanish small plates
Then try: Papa’s Tapas, Sunderland
I know what you’re thinking. Isis. Yep, it’s unfortunate. However, you’ll be pleased to know that this pub has nothing to do with the chronically ill dog from Downton Abbey and everything to do with very tidy tapas. This isn’t one of those tapas bars that just gives you small bits of things you would normally find in a pub, oh no – it’s all albondigas, estofado de carne and pollo a la cremo here.
If you like: Community centred food
Then try: Regather Trading Co-operative, Sheffield
There’s a lot going in here – it’s a brewery, bar, kitchen, catering firm, veg box scheme, supper club, mini cinema, comedy club and gig venue – and it’s all done under the broad banner of co-operative trading with an emphasis on the local, the homely, and the friendly.
If you like: Clubbing while eating
Then try: Distrikt, Leeds
Decent tunes are as essential to a restaurant’s vibe curation as getting the right furniture and deciding whether they’re going to do that thing where they write four quid as ‘£4.0’. Distrikt has loads of bangers, having welcomed the likes of Joey Negro and Nightmares on Wax to play in the past, and their tapas and cocktails are just as exciting
If you like: High class seafood
Then try: Jasper’s Bistro, Amble
There's some confusion as to whether that apostrophe ought to be in there, but a very solid consensus that this is one of the best places to eat on the north Northumberland coast. Seafood is, obviously, a big deal and it’s given all the care and attention the quality produce deserves, and a refined but friendly vibe permeates throughout the place.
