Top Foodies at the Fair

Living North LIVE returns to Newcastle Racecourse from 10th–12th May. Here’s a round-up of some of our favourite foodie exhibitors

Black Storm 
Black Storm Brewery produces a range of beers and ales to suit all tastes. Try the award-winning Porter brew with its robust malt profile, enjoy a refreshing Black Storm IPA with rounded citrus and floral flavours or choose a hoppy Blonde for its subtle biscuit flavour. If you’re looking for something a bit different, then Tropical Strom, made with lemon drop hops, is the pale ale for you. Be sure to check out the brewery’s range of gluten-free beers – there really is an ale for everyone.

Canny Candy Gadgies
This family-run confectioner transports you back to childhood and memories of bygone days. The award-winning business creates hand-crafted sweet treats using old-fashioned recipes with no hidden ingredients – no artificial colours, flavourings or preservatives. Try the sweet, crunchy honeycomb, the rhubarb and custard fudge, or the ‘Posh Geordie Brittle’ with peanuts and popcorn.

Dalton Moor Farm
Stock up on Dalton Moor Farm’s selection of jams and preserves, made with the farm’s own organic fruit and vegetables. Having been planted, nurtured and harvested by hand, Dalton Moor’s passion for quality ingredients shines through in their products.

Gift of Oil
Finding a gap in the market for quality olive oils and balsamic vinegars, Phil Bianchi decided to bring the Mediterranean way of life to the UK. Using his expertise and experience to create flavoured oils which make loyal customers return year after year. Try the popular basil infused olive oil, made from the Di Lorenzo family’s 100 year-old olive trees in Northern Sicily, or for an alternative dressing for your summer salads drizzle over the deliciously sweet pomegranate and fig infused balsamic. 

Le Mini Macaron
Le Mini Macaron’s handmade delights are gluten-free and made with natural flavours. Based in Newcastle, the business is run by a mother and daughter team who hand pipe each individual macaron. Try the popular pistachio flavour or the classic rhubarb and custard combination. For a real sweet treat the s’mores macaron always hits the spot – chocolate ganache and marshmallow are encased a chocolate shell, and topped with a biscuit crumb.

Lymn Bank Farm Cheese
This family-run farm are dedicated to producing quality handcrafted cheeses for their customers to enjoy. Lymn Bank’s cheeses sometimes take two years of nurturing to develop their perfect texture and flavour. Try the Skegness Blue which is made using traditional methods and local milk, or for a fruity flavour enjoy the cranberry cheddar truckle and accompany your cheeseboard with the Lymn Bank’s range of delicious homemade chutneys.

New Zealand Gourmet Pie
This company is the UK’s only producer of proper New Zealand pies, so you’re in for a truly unique treat. On their return from a trip to the other side of the world, Mike and his Kiwi son-in-law Jonny began craving the hot, savoury boost of a New Zealand pie, but they couldn’t find one anywhere. Now the New Zealand Gourmet Pie Company brings you a delicious range of pies, filled to the brim with the finest ingredients. We love the moreish minted lamb version.

Northumbrian Bakehouse
From their base in Kirkhale, the Northumbrian Bakehouse produce quality handmade products. Start your day with their award-winning nutty or fruity granolas, enjoy a ginger snap with your cup of tea, or snack on the Bakehouse’s range of flavoured roasted cashew nuts and almonds. A real highlight of this Northumbrian bakery is the extensive selection of shortbreads – the lemon and thyme shortbread is delightfully light, whilst the more unusual lavender and orange combination offers something a little different for your tea table.

The Olive Store
Embrace the culinary culture of the Mediterranean and enjoy small dishes of Andalusian olives, caper berries and charcuterie, courtesy of the Olive Store. The green olives in chilli and garlic marinade are perfect alongside a glass of chilled white wine, or choose from a range of Spanish charcuterie to make a delicious tapas-style platter – try the hand sliced, free-range pork loin, or enjoy the full flavour of the Juan Pedro Domecq chorizo. Whilst visiting the Olive Store’s stand, stock up on a bottle of authentic Spanish olive oil – perfect for drizzling over a tomato and mozzarella salad.

Cocktail Pickers
This range of bottled cocktails are made from natural fruits, purées and premium spirits. Free from preservatives, just give the chilled bottles a mixologist-style shake before serving. Try the passion fruit martini, bursting with tropical flavours, or enjoy a glass of the Cocktail Picker’s British-inspired cosmopolitan – the natural strawberry and rhubarb flavours are paired with triple-distilled vodka. As evenings get lighter and warmer, al fresco dinner parties are finally on the cards, and the English Country Garden cocktail made with London dry gin, apples and elderflower is the perfect tipple for a summer’s evening.
