If you like: Contemporary dining accompanied by beautiful views

Then try: 47 Grains, Brighouse

Perched alongside the Calder and Hebble Navigation Canal, 47 Grains occupies the space above Millers Bar, which is consistently voted one of Yorkshire’s most popular pubs. And the restaurant doesn’t disappoint either. Expect contemporary dining, with modern takes on British classics – we love the sound of the duo of venison, served with roasted shallots, crispy kale, tenderstem broccoli and red wine jus. Add the stylish interiors and welcoming atmosphere, and we reckon they’re onto a winner here.

If you like: Asian dining in stylish surrounds

Then try: Umai Mi, Newcastle

Keep your eyes peeled for soon-to-open Umai Mi, the latest offering in Newcastle’s restaurant scene. They serve pan-Asian dishes, taking inspiration from countries all over the world. Taking into consideration the cultural dining differences across Asia, Umai Mi offers a menu full of sharing dishes, as well as ones to enjoy individually, and an extensive drinks menu with a tempting selection of cocktails, beers and wines.

If you like: Smoked meats and craft ale in abundance

Then try: The Dirty Bottles Inn, Alnwick

Taking its name from local folklore (apparently known as ‘Thi Dorty Bottles’ by locals for over 200 years) the pub was bought in 2014 to save the building from development. After an extensive refurbishment, they now boast some of the best pub technology in Northumberland – there’s a wall of self-service beer pumps. Be sure to bring your appetite when you visit, the portions are generous and bound to leave you feeling satisfied – we love the sound of the Bottles Burger, a triple-patty affair, smothered in pulled pork and topped with oak-smoked cheese.
