The Lake District
Our neighbouring Lake District has just been granted World Heritage site status

Congratulations are in order for The Lake District, which has just been named as Britain’s 31st UNESCO World Heritage site. It’s the only National Park in the country to be given the status and joins other UK sites including Stonehenge, the city of Bath, the Tower of London and the Giant's Causeway.

It was praised by the UNESCO committee in Kraków for being ‘priceless and irreplaceable’ and for the inspiration its famous mountainous landscape has provided writers and artists across the globe.

It’s expected to boost the local economy, with the original bid predicting a £20m increase if visitors spent one percent more.
