1. He sent your children to sleep faster than you could
In 2016 CBeebies posted a tweet that sent parents (and, in fact, the world) into a frenzy. ‘Tom Hardy reads the Bedtime Story. 6:50pm, New Year’s Eve. Sorted.’ ‘Hello, I’m Tom,’ said Hardy with his dog on his lap, as if it were entirely normal for an A-list celebrity to be reading a bed time story on the BBC channel aimed at toddlers. We can only imagine it went down well after he went on to read again on Valentines Day and Mother’s Day.
2. He’s a real life super hero
He switched to superhero mode when he spotted a thief who crashed a stolen moped. Hardy ended up chasing the culprit through the streets of London, in true Hollywood-style.
3. He’s (technically) a local
Hardy himself has been known to make an appearance or two in Yarm. Being spotted by locals at the Black Bull from time to time, he is always more than happy to engage in selfies – even posing with a local bride-to-be on her hen night.
4. He rescued his dog
He found his dog Woody as a stray running towards a motorway while he was filming Lawless in Atlanta. Hardy rescued him, took him to film sets, red carpet premieres and even had his furry friend appear alongside him on Peaky Blinders.
5. Dedication to charity work
He is an avid supporter of the Prince's Trust, having openly-struggled with abuse issues in his own life, shows support for Help for Heroes, Bowel Cancer Research and Breakthrough Breast Cancer. He even set up his own charity funding page to raise money for the victims of Grenfell Tower.
