Eight ways to spend your weekend

Stand up paddle boarding for the whole family and outdoor barbecue feasts, let Living North show you how to spend your weekend

Enjoy an al fresco dinner here: Cripps and Co BBQ
Cripps & Co offer some of the most beautiful weddings venues across the UK, but during these uncertain times business hasn’t necessarily run as usual. Making the most of the beautifully-restored barns and walled gardens at The Tithe Barn in Yorkshire, the team have teamed up with pizza legends Baz & Fred to launch Cripps BBQ.  Think, informal BBQ venues that operate like a street food venue, but within the depths of the sweeping countryside.

Kick back with a copy of your favourite magazine: Living North’s Latest Edition
Exploring Northumberland’s greenest valley, making the most of the coast – from days out and days in to what to eat and where to stay. Plus, mouthwatering recipes, how to shake up summer cocktails and the best beer gardens in the business. You’ll find all this and more in our new North East August Edition.
Out now in most major supermarkets and selected local independents.

Enjoy food, drink and good vibes here: Chow Down
This summer, Chow Down brings their renowned foodie festival to Leeds’ Temple Arches – picture a huge open space full of food vendors, and Leeds’ biggest beer garden. Expect the best food courtesy of ONaRoll sushi, MorMor, Holy Mountain Kitchen, What The Cluck, Vaso Kitchen and Soul Shack, and rotating lines from Northern Monk and North Brewing Co. accompanied by entertainment, music and street art.

Go MEGA SUP-ing here: Alexander Adventures
Ok, so you’ve tried SUP-ing (aka stand up paddle boarding), but have you ever tried MEGA SUP-ing? This weekend the local outdoor activity legends at Alexander Adventures are hosting a mega sup session in Chester-le-Street. Think super-sized boards build for four or more, which means quadruple the fun, of course.

Browse one-off antiques and unique interiors here: Tall Boy Interiors
This decorative art, antiques and interiors business was set up by Matt Dixon when he was 20, now Tall Boy Interiors is a treasure trove of unique finds in Yorkshire’s famed Malton. Matt displays his unique antiques and French collections in a modern space, and has a reputation for bespoke joinery and traditional upholstery. If you’re on the hunt for inspiration to transform a space in your home, this place is a must.

Get stuck into a new series here: Little Fires Everywhere
Set in shaker heights, Ohio, this mini series follows the lives of two families. One mother thrives on structure and rules, and the other, lives a somewhat nomadic lifestyle. Based on Celeste Ng's 2017 bestseller, Little Fires Everywhere is an intriguing intertwined tale where secrets are uncovered and fires begin to start.

Head to see live music outdoors here: Virgin Unity Arena
Newcastle's biggest new venue on the outdoor entertainment scene has popped up at Gosforth Park. They have a stellar summer schedule with musical appearances throughout August and September from Two Door Cinema Club, Becky Hill and Tom Grennan, alongside evenings of comedy courtesy of Adam Kay too. Looking for something to really get you in the party spirit? Bongo’s Bingo are returning here with some of their biggest shows ever, and if you're a fan you know you'll need to get your tickets booked well in advance for this one.
