What to Do and Where to Eat this Week

Harry Potter and artisan pizza – a match made in heaven, if you ask us

An entirely improvised Harry Potter play, based only on a suggestion of a fan fiction title? Sign us up. With live musical accompaniment, comedic smash-hit Spontaneous Potter promises to enchant as potions are set in motion and charms are cast with decidedly mixed results at The Leadmill in Sheffield on Wednesday. Hold tight to your broomsticks for some wickedly funny wizardry.

While you’re there, try…
The quirky Craft & Dough which offers craft beer, artisan pizza, brunch, coffee and cocktails – all of which are done with great panache. It has to be said however, that the pizzas are the real standout – the Green Eggs and Ham with prosciutto, an egg and basil pesto is delicious.

North East
Corrie may seem a far cry from classic Alfred Hitchcock thrillers, but Gwen Taylor and Andrew Lancel seem to have had no trouble swapping the cobbles for the stage in this devilishly-fun stage adaptation of  The Lady Vanishes, heading to the Darlington Hippodrome this Friday. When socialite Iris' travelling companion disappears, her fellow passengers deny ever having seen them. With the help of musician Max, Iris turns detective – but will they get the chance to solve this perplexing mystery?

While you’re there, try…
Otter and Fish, a cosy country pub, overlooking the River Tees, that prides itself on a warm atmosphere and homemade food. You’ll find plenty of pub classics – like the beer-battered haddock and hand-cut chips – or you can opt for the confit duck leg with dauphinoise potatoes, vegetable medley and cherry jus for a taste of fine dining.
