Where To Get Sporty This Weekend

Start of the Six Nations and Super Bowl LIV?! Our sporting cups overfloweth

If you’re after… SCRUM-THING SPECIAL
Finally we can see shining light after a long, cold and dreary January – The Guinness Six Nations. The action kicks off on Saturday, with defending champions Wales welcoming continual underdogs Italy to Cardiff, and Ireland facing Scotland at the Aviva Stadium, before Eddie Jones’ men take on Les Bleus at the Stade de France on Sunday.

If you’re in the North East:
The Union Rooms in Newcastle is a good shout, as they have a special £6.50 power lunch offer, meaning you’ll stay fuelled up for a full day of sports. Bar 52 in South Shields is giving away free Budweiser, while The Hill Top in Stanley, The Rosedene in Sunderland and The Traveller’s Rest in Hartlepool are all offering 10 percent off selected drinks.

If you’re in Yorkshire:
The Chestnut Tree in Barnsley, The Crown in Bradford and The Cumberland in Doncaster all have similar 10 percent off selected drinks offers. Plus, Harkers in York have a special beer-and-burger deal on all day, so you’ll have plenty to line your stomach, and The Harrogate Arms are giving away a free pint for every five you buy. Sounds like a challenge.

If you’re want to be… SUPER BOWL-ED OVER
Sure, we don’t pretend to know all the rules, but whether you follow the NFL all year round or you’re just dipping your toe into the water for all the glitz, guts and glory of the biggest event in the American sporting calendar, the Super Bowl won’t disappoint. Things don’t kick off until 11.30pm though, so make sure you’re prepared for a late night.

If you’re in the North East:
Shark Club’s Super Bowl parties are now the stuff of legend in Newcastle, with a live DJ, two-pint steins and more than 40 screens to catch all the action. Middlesbrough’s The Blue Bell Hotel is also a great shout, where you can squeeze in a few games of pool in-between quarters and enjoy free pizza during half time. Or head along to Durham’s Riverside and enjoy full coverage on their giant HD screen alongside £1.80 pints and pizzas from £4. Bargain.

If you’re in Yorkshire:
MOJO in Harrogate has plenty of special offers to keep you in good spirits all through the night, including 10 Heinekens for £35, a beer-and-burger deal for £10, and a bucket of 30 chicken wings for £20, as well as some Jack Daniels drink specials. Box Leeds are making their offer particularly tempting with late-night pizzas, free popcorn and beer pong, while Halifax’s Fire Pit promises to celebrate the big game in characteristically flamin’ hot style. Should be a scorcher.
