Where to pick your pumpkins

Pick your own pumpkins, squashes and gourds at farms across the North East and Yorkshire – with a few spooky surprises thrown in

Piglets Adventure Farm

Weekends in October, plus 24th October–1st November

Pick your homegrown pumpkin from the thousands in the pumpkin patch (which come in a huge variety of shapes, sizes and colours) then get creative in the pumpkin carving tent. Away from the vegetables, look for ghosts hiding in the mysterious maze, explore the farmyard trail and have a go on the pumpkin slingshot and corn cannon.

Towthorpe Grange, York

Farmer Copleys Pumpkin Festival

3rd, 4th, 10th, 11th, 17th–31st October

With more than 130,000 pumpkin plants of more than 20 varieties, you can choose from a rainbow of pumpkins at Farmer Copleys Pumpkin Festival. There are more than 20 acres to explore here, and there are sheltered carving tents with helpers on hand too (so you don’t need to make a mess all over your kitchen when you get home!). Refuel in the Moo Café or Witches Kitchen Marquee, or grab something to go from the On the Mooooove food van.

Ravensknowle Farm, Pontefract

Birchfield Family Dairies

3rd–31st October

Put your wellies on and grab a wheelbarrow to explore six acres of pumpkins here. Once you’ve made your choice from the patch, let your imagination run wild in the carving barn (and feed the slimy pumpkin innards to the hungry pigs in the farm yard!). Takeaway food and diner will be available from the café, and there are picnic benches too.

Birchfield Farm, Summerbridge, Harrogate

Thornton Hall Country Park

10th–31st October

Grab a mini wheel barrow and head to the enchanted pumpkin patch to meet Fred Web (the giant spider) and a cast of creepy characters at Thornton Hall Country Park. There are spooky shows and demonstrations too, and your ticket will also include a visit to the animal barn to meet the friendly residents.

Thornton-in-Craven, Skipton

The Pumpkin Patch Produce

Saturdays and Sundays from 10th–31st October

From compact culinary varieties to monster carving pumpkins, weird and wonderful squashes and decorative gourds, The Pumpkin Patch team are specialists in all things pumpkin and squash. As well as their pick-your-own fields, they create a fabulous autumnal display with thousands of pumpkins at the shop each year – the ideal backdrop for that perfect Insta shot.

Homeland Farm, Bewholme, Driffield

Yorkshire Pumpkin Patch

10th, 11th, 17th, 18th, 22nd–31st October

Pick from thousands of pumpkins and pay by size before you leave – don’t forget to check out the kid’s play area, and refreshments are available too.

Lodge Farm, Cundall

Down At The Farm

24th–31st October

Put on your wellies and head to the farm because this year they’re turning the haunted house area into a giant indoor pumpkin patch. You don’t want to miss Pumpkin Week here, where you can carve your pumpkin onsite. Then, why not visit the adorable animals?

Down at the Farm, Houghton

Adventure Valley

17th, 18th, 24th October–1st November

Collect your pumpkin from the patch here before getting creative with your carving in the Pumpkin Barn – plus, enjoy smashing fun with the Corn Cob Catapult to see who can hit the most targets.

Union Hall Farm, Brasside

East Grange PYO Pumpkins

16th–31st October

With over 20,000 pumpkins spread out over eight acres and 17 varieties with six different colours – you’re spoilt for choice. From small 500g pumpkins all the way to 12kg if you’ve got the muscle (or at least the energy to push the wheelbarrow), there’s a pumpkin for everyone here.

East Grange Farm, High Shincliffe

Brocksbushes Farm Shop

10th – 31st October

At Brockbushes, they’ve been growing pumpkins on every inch of the farm after their pumpkin picking events were so popular last year. Choose from the different varieties and take them home to carve – but don’t forget to refuel on homemade cakes and scones at their team room onsite.

Brocksbushes Farm, Corbridge
