Our Chosen Charity
Each year we choose to support one special charity at our Living North LIVE and Christmas fairs. This year, we’re hoping to make a difference to Maggie’s Newcastle – a charity which offers free practical, emotional and social support to people with cancer, and their family and friends.
The first Maggie’s Centre opened in Edinburgh in 1996, and there are now 18 centres in the grounds of major NHS cancer hospital’s across the UK, online and abroad. Within Maggie’s Newcastle (in the grounds of the Freeman Hospital) a small team of professionally trained staff work tirelessly to support people living with cancer. The team includes cancer support nurses, a Clinical Psychologist and a Benefits Advisor who has so far helped secure more than £4 million of financial support for people with cancer in the North East and Cumbria. There’s also advice on nutrition and gentle stress-relieving exercise such as Yoga and Tai Chi available.
