Begin with a cocktail in the lounge (our favourite is the Sohe Gimlet, balancing Roku gin with kaffir lime, lemongrass, yuzu and Thai basil) before heading to the restaurant for pan-Asian dishes, such as steamed crab wontons and beef rendang with jasmine rice.
The Violet Green, Norton
You'll have a truly unique dining experience at The Violet Green, which is housed in the basement of an old village bank. Cosy and uncomplicated, yet still offering a refined menu, you'll find dishes including cripsy hen's egg with chorizo and tomato jam, and chateaubriand to share.

Barrio Comida are yet another of the North East’s successful street foodies to go bricks-and-mortar. Expect authentic Mexican dishes inspired by the amazing taquerias dotted all over Mexico and California, and be sure to try their rare-breed pork belly tacos with guacamole, salsa habanera and pink onions – we like ours with a margarita.
Satisfy your Spanish food cravings at this intimate restaurant, where mouthwatering Spanish tapas and charcuterie, as well as an excellent selection of wines are the order of the day. With only a handful of tables and an ever-growing customer base, you’d be well advised to book in advance at their High Bridge or Dean Street outposts.
Water Lane Boathouse, Leeds
Fancy-Dan sourdough pizzas done in a proper oven, hot and cold sandwiches made with bread from in-house bakery Small Victories, meat and veggie sharing boards and vitamin-packed fruit bowls are on the menu at this converted warehouse. It’s an almost infinitely dense point of Nouveau Leeds-ness.
Yummy Yorkshire, Huddersfield
Having already conquered ice cream and cafés with their Yummy Yorkshire brand, Jeremy and Louise Holmes’ restaurant Hide and Hoof is a step up. Celebrating great Yorkshire produce with brilliant suppliers and dishes like the veg-packed halloumi burger.
The Lamb & Lion, York
Built on the city walls at Bootham Bar, this characterful inn has a surprisingly large, enclosed beer garden at the rear overlooked by the nearby Minster. Serving regional real ales and a mixture of classic and contemporary dishes, it’s a great place to hide-out in the bustling city of York
Fancy a little plate of Italian food or two? Head to Stuzzi and dine as you would in an Italian Osteria – if the sun’s shining outside, you can pretend you’re in Venice or some such glamorous location. Expect traditional dishes and modern flair here.
