Our Top Plant-Based Foodie Spots

We bring you our favourite cafés and restaurants serving delicious veggie and vegan fare

The Greenhouse
This plant-based café serves a menu of sweet and savoury dishes which are both nutritious and delicious. Unwind over a perfectly made cup of coffee and slice of homemade cake, or choose from the all-day menu. Our favourite section of the extensive menu has to be the range of tasty ‘bowls’ – packed full of healthy vitamins, each bowl has a theme, from Vitality and Well Being, to Chill Out and Recovery. With a focus to eliminate its single-use plastics by 2020, The Greenhouse is saving our planet as well as our appetites.

Steep & Filter, Skipton
Located just off Skipton’s bustling high street, Steep & Filter is a trendy new addition to the Dales’ café culture. As well as being home to a plastic-free ‘eco-store’ where you can refill household products and recycle empties, the café’s menu is full of delicious vegan and vegetarian home cooking. Aiming to dispel the myth that vegan food is any less flavoursome than its meaty counterparts, Steep & Filter’s popular dishes include the full veggie breakfast, minted pea and bean smash and red lentil chilli with cauliflower rice. Enjoy an oat milk iced coffee or herbal tea whilst browsing the café’s charming ‘book-swap’ shelves.

Health Prep Kitchen, Morpeth
This café believes that looking good on the outside starts with feeling good on the inside. Its menu lives up to that mantra, serving wholesome, nutritious and sustainable fare. This is the perfect place to eat well this summer – proving a healthy lifestyle doesn’t have to be boring. A breakfast of homemade raspberry and banana bread with coconut yoghurt and raspberry compote will start your day off right, whilst the lunch menu’s range of vegan bowls are packed with vitamins and fibre.

Jumping Bean Café, Durham
Serving mouth-watering plant-based takes on fast food, the Jumping Bean Café in Durham aims to protect our planet whilst serving delicious home-cooked dishes. You’ll hardly notice the vegan substitutes in the café’s popular burgers and hot dogs – try the vegan quarter pounder with onion rings, slaw and ‘fakey’ bacon and cheese, or choose a hot dog topped with vegan pulled pork and a side of dirty fries. As a bonus, everything on the menu can be tweaked into a vegan version.
