When it comes to looking after your skin, cleansers are often overlooked in favour of super-serums and nourishing oils, but they are one of the most vital parts of your beauty regime. A good cleanser should leave your skin clean, clear and healthy, free from make-up and perfectly prepped for whatever comes next.
As for the best type of cleanser, the choice is clearly yours. And it’s not just about texture. From milky washes to balm-based gels, they all do their job, although depending on your skin type some cleansers may be too harsh for sensitive skin or stressed complexions.
Those with more sensitive skin may prefer a milky cleanser. An oil-based cleanser will help hydrate, whilst the many balm-based cleanser are great all rounders, especially for those who like to ‘wash’ their face. A cleanser containing glycolic acid will work doubly hard, cleansing and exfoliating, but approach with caution if your skin is already over-stressed, and try and steer clear of a cleanser containing sodium lauryl sulphate, which can strip the skin.
