Treatment review: Living North visit My.Logica

We head along to My.Logica for an afternoon of pampering, and we think you should too…

Beauty treatments are taking the North East by storm – ranging from micro-needling treatments to the Million Dollar Facial – but for Michael Gillies at My.Logica, the results are in the science.

Tucked away inside City Aesthetics Clinic (Newcastle’s top rated clinic for dermal filler and anti wrinkle injections) in Newcastle's city centre, you’ll find a perfect piece of escapism, away from the North East’s gloomy autumn weather. The warm and cosy reception area has a hint of glamour running throughout – think chandeliers and plush leather sofas – and is the type of environment that will feel make you feel relaxed and welcome almost instantly. Combined with a warm greeting from owner, Michael, you’ll feel at ease as he guides you through a discussion about your skin's needs, before getting on to the tailor-made treatment.

Founded in 1986, Dermalogica as a brand, has grown to become a leading professional skin care brand, used by more than 100,000 skin therapists in more than 100 countries. Their approach? To create customised regimens and services for every individual – this is key to My.Logica’s ethos: Everyone needs a different kind of treatment, because everyone is unique.

Formerly a private Chef, Michael found his passion in the beauty industry and opened his very own business just over a year ago – he tells me it has seen great success in its first year. I’m guided through to their Pinterest-worthy treatment room. I’ve opted for a relaxing spa massage, with pressure tailored to your request. It’s a relaxing massage that not only relieves tension but also alleviates mental fatigue, creating a real feeling of total relaxation which, let's face it, we could all do with at the moment.

After 30 minutes, Michael moves on to the Dermalogica facial, tailored to my skin type, which we’ve previously discussed. Michael has opted for a cocktail of products suitable for dry, tired skin, to make it visibly brighter and healthier.

First comes the Dermalogica pre-cleanse followed a gentle, ultra-calming cleanser (a pH-balanced non-foaming cleanser perfect for sensitive skin types, I’m told), followed by a daily microfolient exfoliating powder to remove any traces of dead skin. Finally, an ultra calming water-gel moisturiser, which locks in moisture and forms a weightless barrier against environmental assault – an absolute essential at this time of year. Each product is applied to my entire face, using massage-like techniques.

When the hour is up I really don’t want to leave the little bubble of bliss. The whole process brought my skin back to life and created a glow I couldn’t quite believe resulted from a mere 30 minutes. Whether it’s a treat for someone else, or some well-deserved me-time, there’s never been a more important time to take care of ourselves, and each other. And, if you need further persuasion, My.Logica are offering 50 percent off massages and Dermalogica facials from Monday to Friday until 14th November.
