Voted one of the best places to live in the UK, Beverley is also one of the region’s best kept secrets. Tucked away in the East Riding of Yorkshire, the town is home to a lively market, a fascinating history and a medieval skyline that remains refreshingly unspoilt. But the real spark to Beverley’s appeal is its burgeoning shopping scene, with a plethora of independent shops along its narrow cobbled streets that have long attracted locals and visitors alike. From beautiful clothing boutiques and fantastic florists to a Michelin-approved restaurant, there’s something to entice even the most discerning of shoppers.
Focus On… Aura Beverley
Bringing a sense of style to the historic street of Ladygate in Beverley, Aura is an independent fashion boutique selling high-end women’s clothing and accessories. Despite being open little over a year, the store has built up quite the following for its unique offering of exciting new labels, creating a whole new luxury shopping experience for local ladies. The creator, Abi Dee, is a seasoned shopaholic herself, and is dedicated to uncovering brands that are different, quality and, most importantly, fashionable.
How long have you been open in Beverley?
We opened in October 2018. I can't believe it’s already been over a year, it’s scary how time is flying!
What made you choose Beverley to open the store?
The opening of my own boutique has been a long time coming, as I have always dreamed of having my own business. I saw a gap in the market in Beverley for women’s clothing and I wanted to create a space that allowed women to experiment with exciting new brands that hadn't reached Beverley yet.
Can you describe your typical customer?
I have been pleasantly surprised by the variety of customers, in particular the range of ages – I have customers my age, 26, but I have also sold a dress to someone in her 80s! But I suppose my typical customers are ladies that are looking for individual style, without compromising on quality and wearability. They come to us for a stand-out, unique outfit, but also their essential everyday pieces.
What sort of things do you sell?
We provide everything from women’s clothing and accessories to luxury lifestyle pieces. I have worked really hard to find brands that work across all age demographics, as I think it’s really important that fashion is accessible to everyone.
What’s your most popular product?
We have so many great brands that it’s hard to choose, but I would say our jeans brand, Mos Mosh, is a best seller, together with our new trainers, Air & Grace, which are flying out the door as fast as we can stock them. Other brands such as American Vintage, Stardust and Second Female are also popular.
