Make My Week...

We’re feeling all nostalgic this week as we dance along with a former Strictly star, get a unique insight into The BFG, and sip on a hot toddy (or two)

Armistice Day may have passed, but if you’re curious about what happened after the guns fell silent on the Western Front 100 years ago, this is an event worth visiting. The Brotherton Gallery's ‘Goodbye to all that? Legacies of the First World War’ exhibition is where you can learn all about the men, women and children of Yorkshire who lived through the conflict, and the profound impact it had on the rest of their lives.
We were treated to a sensational showcase of ballroom when Strictly went to Blackpool on Saturday, but if you’re wanting to keep your dancing shoes on all week then Sunderland Empire is the place to be. Dance aficionado and former Strictly stalwart Brendan Cole will be setting the stage alight with an extravagant mix of Latin fever and ballroom magic in his latest production All Night Long – offering up everything from tantalising tangoes to passionate paso dobles, fabulous foxtrots and simply wonderful waltzes. You’ll not forget this show in a hurry.

Take a trip to York Art Gallery this Wednesday and see Roald Dahl classic, The BFG, brought to life. Curated by the beloved illustrator Quentin Blake, the exhibition contains 40 original artworks and includes rarely seen, unpublished illustrations of The BFG. Providing an unique insight into the characterisation of one of the most iconic figures in children’s literature, The BFG in Pictures promises to delight Dahl fans both young and old.

The tipi trend is popping up all over the place (literally) and Sheffield is no exception. Tonight from 6pm THOR’S, the Nordic winter wonderland, returns to Peace Gardens. It’s the perfect spot to perch fire-side with a hot chocolate (or toddy) – you’ll soon be feeling those festive vibes.
