JUMP FOR THEIR LOVE
What: Bungee jump
Where: Transporter Bridge, Middlesbrough
Why: You’re sure to feel butterflies in your stomach (though perhaps not the romantic kind) with a jump from the top of the iconic Transporter Bridge. Climb the 210 steps to the bridge’s peak and soak up the stunning views of Middlesbrough with your partner, before taking a jump of 160ft towards the River Tees below. The only bridge in England that you can bungee jump from, you can really show off your adventurous side to your loved one with this date with a difference, so jump head-first into love and take a leap of faith.
THE GREAT ESCAPE
What: Escape room
Where: Escape Key, Newcastle
Why: If you’re looking for an interactive date with your partner that is both exciting and challenging (and may just test your communication skills to their limit), then try your hand at an escape room. At Escape Key in Newcastle, there are four immersive experiences to choose from, each of which are themed around Newcastle’s rich heritage; while the Plague room draws inspiration from one of the worst outbreaks in English history, (many of the victims of which are buried just below in the church yard), the Electric City room celebrates the fact that Newcastle was the first city in the world to be lit by electricity. So you can have a healthy dose of local pride with your romance.
WATER WAY TO GO
What: White water rafting
Where: Tees Barrage International White Water Centre, Stockton
Why: Sure, you could enjoy a tranquil canal tour along Venice in a gondola with your partner, but these days that’s all just a bit boring, isn’t it? Tees Barrage International White Water Centre, however, have exciting water sports aplenty on offer – like bell boating, paddle boarding and white water rafting. And when you’re exhausted (and soaking) from all of the day’s activities, the water centre is surrounded by thriving wildlife: perfect for exploring on a bike.

HAVE AN AXE TO GRIND
What: Axe throwing
Where: Ringinglow Archery, Sheffield
Why: ‘Axe throwing? For a date?’ we hear you say. Yes. Come on, it’ll bring a healthy dose of competition to your relationship. Better yet, if your significant other has been slacking on the housework, you can offload all that pent-up aggression without getting into trouble, (unless you miss the target). Ringinglow Archery is a prime spot to give it a go, with experts guiding you every step of the way. They also offer opportunities to shoot air rifles, pistols and crossbows, throw knives and (as the name suggests) have a go at archery too – just on the off-chance that all this aggression is doing wonders for your relationship.
DIVE RIGHT IN
What: Sky diving
Where: Skydive GB, Bridlington
Why: Show your loved one how hard you fell for them by falling from 10,000ft at speeds of more than 100mph at Yorkshire’s only skydive centre. A once-in-a-lifetime experience that promises a rush like no other, when you take the plunge with a partner you can bet you’ll share an experience neither of you will ever forget. And while you’ll not be able to jump together (unless one of you happens to be a qualified skydiving instructor), you can support each other and compare experiences. So jump right in… sorry, out.
Where: Fancy Frog Pottery, Scarborough
Why: Anyone who has ever watched Ghost will know exactly why pottery makes such a great date – although we’re not sure you could get away with that kind of behaviour at Fancy Frog Pottery in Scarborough. Nevertheless, there’s still something ridiculously therapeutic about squishing some clay around in your hands (which may help iron out any little differences the two of you have been having recently), and you may even come away with a decorative little something special you can proudly display in your love-nest.
