Sailing, surfing, paddleboarding or kayaking – whatever your sport, grab your wetsuit and hit the water

Watersports have never been so popular and thanks to our beautiful coastline we're blessed with places to go sailing, surfing, paddleboarding, kayaking and more. But what if you've never tried these activities, where do you go? Well, you're in luck as we've rounded up some of the best places in the North East and Yorkshire to learn.

Adventure Sunderland  
Always wanted to try power boating or coasteering? Now’s your chance, with trained instructors on-hand to assist. Also on offer are paddleboarding, kayaking, canoeing, bell boating, pier jumping and surfing, or if you’d rather not get in the water, they have a range of on-land activities to try too, including archery and indoor climbing.

Northside Surf School  
Enjoy the water along the beautiful Northumbrian coastline with this surf and stand-up paddleboarding school in Amble, exploring hidden bays on a coastal tour or a leisurely paddle up and around the castle on the River at Warkworth. They run surf lessons at Bamburgh all year-round and even have snorkel equipment available to hire too.

South Shields Surf School
Learn a new skill with South Shields Surf School’s SUP and surf lessons at Sandhaven Beach. Don’t worry if you’re a complete novice, they can cater for all ages and abilities, are Surf England accredited, and have all the equipment you’ll need available to hire. For nature lovers, there are also rock pooling sessions so you can explore what the tide has brought in. With plenty of sessions planned over the summer you can spend and hour and a half with their experts learning all about the fascinating marine life in the many rock pools. South Shields Surf School are also involved in several important community projects including Beach Access for free beach wheelchair loan, Sea Company a veterans’ surf group, and Project Surf, developing surf courses, therapy and clubs for those with disabilities and educational special needs.

CBK Adventures

Flow Surf School
