Back by popular demand, NE1 Restaurant Week is returning from 8th–14th August – and now is the time to book a table or two, or three!

With more than 100 restaurants offering £10, £15 or £20 menus, there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy some of the best food in the city. Here’s our top picks of where to dine out at a discount.
Khai Khai Khai Khai

Grey Owl
94 Grey Street, Newcastle NE1 6AG
From the team behind Hibou Blanc, Grey Owl recently opened their doors and have been enjoying heaps of praise ever since. During Restaurant Week they will be offering two brunch dishes for £15 from Monday through to Thursday. Choose from eggs Benedict or eggs Florentine, rose-whipped ricotta on sourdough, Turkish eggs, pan con tomate and fried egg, oak smoked salmon, Harissa mixed beans and honey halloumi, or saffron yogurt and toasted pine nuts.

Hugo Brasserie
15 Side, Newcastle NE1 3JE

Another new restaurant which has opened just in time to get involved with NE1’s Restaurant Week is Hugo Brasserie down near the Quayside. Their offer includes two courses for £15 or three for £20 and choices range from soup de jour and chicken and duck liver parfait to start, slow roasted belly pork, north Atlantic monkfish or beetroot and goats’ cheese ravioli for main, and sticky toffee pudding and rhubarb and custard arctic roll for dessert.

Khai Khai
29 Queen Street, Quayside, Newcastle NE1 3UG
0191 261 4277
Known for their incredible flavours, Khai Khai is the place to book this Restaurant Week. For £20, choose from a selection of small and smoke plates, followed by heritage mains such as Kashmiri lamb rogan josh, old Delhi butter chicken or three greens saag aloo, as well as a choice of sides.

pizza I Scream for Pizza

I Scream for Pizza
Three Indian Kings House, 31 Quayside Newcastle NE1 3DE
0191 422 3988
It wouldn’t be Restaurant Week without the queens of pizza offering their tasty slices at a discount. At the Quayside outpost, pick up any slice of pizza, dip, a small I Scream sundae or cone and a soft drink for just £10. Feeling hungry? Upgrade your deal to any big pie, two dips and two house alcoholic drinks (or a share I Scream Sundae) for just £20.

35 Side, Newcastle NE1 3JE
0191 222 0973
Dining at this cosy Michelin Guide-recommended restaurant is a real treat and it’s even better when it’s at a discount. Enjoy a starter and a main, or a main and a dessert for just £20. Our perfect meal would be the crispy lamb sweetbreads with fresh peas, mint and pea juice to start followed by the rare seared tuna with baba ghanoush and coriander. If you’ve got a sweet tooth, the white chocolate and rose panna cotta with pomegranate and pistachio sounds ideal.

1–3 Market Lane, Newcastle NE1 6QQ
0191 261 7222
Enjoy two brunch dishes for £15 or try a selection of snacks, sides and small plates for £20, and because they have deals throughout the day it’s the perfect excuse to try both their brunch and evening offerings. We’re big fans of their shloumi brunch – think halloumi, mixed mushrooms, fresh creamy avocado and a poached egg on sourdough Rye, topped with spiced tomato sauce and spicy dressing.

106 Quayside, Newcastle NE1 3DX
0191 359 2906
It’s all about modern American-Japanese fusion dishes at the brand new Quayside restaurant, Victors. Expect starters such as sweet soy and sesame chicken skewers, panko squid and mushroom croquettes; teriyaki salmon and wild garlic roast chicken for mains; followed by a section of desserts including a coconut and lemongrass panna cotta. The deal during the week is two courses for £20.

At the home of modern French dining enjoy four courses for £20. Begin your evening with a selection of bread and olives, followed by a choice of starters (our pick would be the salmon rillettes with pickles and toasted sourdough), and main courses including pan-fried sea bass, poulet Provencal, roasted squash and ribeye steak. Make sure you leave room for dessert as their crème caramel and chocolate mousse both sound delicious.

95 Quayside, Newcastle NE1 3DH

Tomahawk is a specialist city steak restaurant who are all about the meat, but there are some tasty dishes for all diners (including vegetarians) on their three courses for £20 menu. Our choice would include crispy squid with Asian slaw for starters, followed by a flat iron steak served with French fries, finished off with a warm Kinder brownie with salted caramel, chocolate soil and Bueno ice cream.

You’re spoilt for choice at both Kaltur restaurants, which are just a short stroll apart. Try three tempting tapas dishes such as patatas bravas, cooked chorizo, Iberico pork cheeks and tempura aubergine at both locations for just £20.
