It’s Halloween and Living North’s Newcastle Christmas Fair, so there’s lots of treats ahead this weekend

There’s so much to do this weekend to celebrate Halloween across the North East and Yorkshire – let us inspire you.
Newcastle Castle Keep

Get into the spirit of Halloween…

What better way to celebrate Halloween than with a spooky ghost walk? There’re plenty in the North East and Yorkshire to choose from including Newcastle Ghost Walks and The Original Ghost Walk of York, where you can try out your ghost-busting skills. Even if you can’t make it, there are plenty of (potentially) haunted spots for you to visit across the weekend including Ripley Castle and The Lit & Phil.

Scare yourself silly…

If that’s not frightening enough, what about this? Psycho Path – the North East's Biggest Scream Park – is back at Lintz Hall Farm and this weekend is your last chance to get in on the action. From a creepy corn maze to a new island with petrifying pirates and an isolated experience where you’re forced to go it alone, do you dare enter? Or why not head to the award-winning Scream Factory in Kirkleatham (this event is also coming to an end this weekend). From The Cursed Mine to the Garden of Lost Souls, you’re promised a real fright… if you’re brave enough.

Something for the kids…

Okay, that might be a little bit too scary for the whole family. If you’re with the kids this weekend, take them to see Bat, Cackle Pop! It’s Winifred the Witch’s birthday and she thinks that everyone has forgotten. There’s going to be a rather big surprise party, but first we need to make a special birthday cake. Suitable for everyone aged three and over, this show is touring to venues in Skipton, Thirsk, Great Broughton and Arncliffe until Sunday 30th October, thanks to Rural Arts and Story Craft Theatre – and promises to leave its audiences spellbound. It’s the perfect family show before you head out trick or treating.

Surround yourself with art…

On Friday 28th, Dalí: Surreal Worlds is taking over Bishop Auckland town centre with a uniquely stunning and immersive display of light installations and art which you won’t want to miss. Taking inspiration from Salvador Dalí’s masterpiece, Christ of Saint John of the Cross currently on display at The Auckland Project’s Spanish Gallery, expect to see collaborative exhibitions, a street art trail, and a programme of live entertainment and creative workshops. It promises to be very different.

See a show…

On Sunday 30th at Oval Hall, Sheffield City Hall don’t miss Stars of the West End with Kerry Ellis and Louise Dearman. If you love West End musicals, you’ll love this show. These two leading ladies are presenting a musical extravaganza of popular West End and movie hits accompanied by the fabulous International Film Orchestra and you can dance the night away to music from Wicked, Les Mis, We Will Rock You and The Greatest Showman.

Need more inspiration?

There are plenty more Halloween events to choose from here. Staying in? No worries. This week’s TV guide has you covered with the best scary films and shows to get you through the weekend, including the first Halloween film and Insidious.

Start Christmas early…

If Halloween isn’t your thing, not to worry. It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas… especially at Newcastle Racecourse, where we’ll once again be hosting Living North’s Christmas Fair (27th–30th October). Join us for a jam-packed day, where you can get all your Christmas shopping done under one roof. We’re thrilled to invite you to the biggest and best seasonal shopping event in the North, with more than 250 carefully-selected stands, from artisan designer-makers, local food producers and fashion retailers to homewares, gifts and accessories, and of course special Christmas decorations. Catch up with the region’s best chefs in our demo kitchen and take a well-earned break from all that shopping in our festive Prosecco Bar. Tickets are available on the door.

Make the most of your extra hour…

This autumn, the clocks change at 2am on Sunday 30th when they go back one hour –  so you can look forward to an extra hour in bed! Or you could spend it wisely… carve your pumpkin, go for a walk (there’s plenty of inspiration for where to go at livingnorth.com) or watch an extra episode of that Netflix show you’re binging.
