Roots Farm Shop was established in 2008 through the need to improve the sustainability of the family farm and a desire to sell quality local food to the community. At the butchery, all their beef, pork and lamb is sourced from neighbouring farmers no more than four miles away, and the team create a wide range of oven-ready dishes such as beef Wellington and stuffed pork fillets. In the farm shop, you’ll find fresh fruit and vegetables, artisan bread and local preserves, alongside a variety of Yorkshire and British cheese. Be sure to pick up fabulous wine and beer for festive tipples and gifts, and some delicious goodies from the in-house bakery.

The butchers might win best in show at Farmer Copleys, but they have much more to offer beyond that. As a family, they have been farming for more than 140 years, while the farm shop opened in 2003 and has been expanding ever since. These days, you can also visit the Moo Café, serving seasonal food made from ingredients found in the shop. In store and on their online shop you’ll find an assortment of dishes curated especially for the festive season, from centrepiece desserts to ready-made trimmings (think Brussels sprouts with smoky bacon lardons), and even their own gelato.

Beadlam Grange don’t just sell local produce, they also breed the award-winning Limousin beef that is stocked in their butchery. At Mainsgill, the mantra is ‘if we can’t make it ourselves, we’ll source it from the best local and regional suppliers’. Christmas orders are now open here and you’ll need to order early to make sure you secure your selection of their meats, trimmings, desserts, fruit and vegetable boxes and sweet and savoury bakes. If you are shopping in-store, the majority of their fruit and veg is sold loose, so we recommend coming prepared with a few bags to keep things organised. The shop also showcases the work of local artists, ceramicists and authors, so it’s worth scheduling in time for a proper mooch. You might just cross a few gifts off your list in the process!

From the meat in their butchers, to chutneys, biscuits, drinks and pickles, McCallum’s Farm Shop sell everything you need for your pantry. They also have a café serving fresh food made with produce from the shop, which was originally started to sell fruit grown on the farm. They still sell their own fruit in summer and autumn, including strawberries, apples, plums, pears and gooseberries.
