New openings across the North East and Yorkshire

These are the new spots foodies will want to know about this month.
NORTH EAST
Avocado, eggs, bacon on toast Mokka

Breakfast of Champions

Mokka is the brand new café-cum-bakery you need to know about. Setting up shop on Chillingham Road, the breakfast and pastry menu here is filled with wonderful Turkish options – poached eggs served over creamy yoghurt, warm feta pastries and loaded sandwiches to sit in or takeaway.

Craving Something New

Popping up on Mackie’s Corner in Sunderland, Crave is the brand new lunch spot to know about  serving plenty of favourites including fresh focaccia sandwiches and fantastic deli salads (with plenty of other homemade options to choose from too).

Thou Shalt Have a Fishy

North East staple, Colman’s Fish & Chips have opened up a brand new spot on Fenwick’s first floor as part of the store’s latest culinary collaboration. Their award-winning fish and chips will of course be the focal point of the menu, which also features old favourites with a modern twist.

Pie in the Sky

A brand new pie shop has just opened its doors in Roker and is taking customers back to basics, with hearty, homemade pies served with all the classic trimmings. Selling more than 1,000 pies in its first week, it’s fair to say that Pied is going down a treat on Fulwell Road.

Abraca-Tadka!

No sooner did we say goodbye to one of our favourite Indian restaurants, Thali Tray, than the brand new Tadka opened its doors, from the very same owners. Now based in Sandyford, the restaurant serves delicious and authentic modern Indian cuisine in an array of small plates and classic curries.

The Spice of Life

This May, the wildly popular London-based Indian restaurant Cinnamon Kitchen is heading north. Opening within Leeds’ Queens Hotel, the new outpost brings chef Vivek Singh’s signature modern Indian cuisine to a whole new audience in a stunning space, inspired by the grandeur of India’s historic first-class waiting rooms.

Bringing the Heat

A brand new, must-visit dining destination has just opened in Dyson Place in Sheffield. Cooking over an open wood fire, Six and a Half offers a menu of small plates and sharing plates, all enhanced by the aroma and flavour of this ancient way of cooking. Think harissa venison haunch with mint yoghurt, cured whisky salmon with dill mayo and salt-baked beetroot with whipped rosemary feta.

Wine Time

Already boasting an eclectic wine scene, Leeds has just added another venue to the mix. NoNo Wine Bar is a fun and vibrant space dedicated to making wine an approachable and enjoyable experience for everyone. A cosy spot on Granary Wharf, their personalised wine quiz is a great guide to choosing a wine if you don’t know where to start.

New Digs

Everyone’s favourite brunch spot Residence is set to open another location in Moortown, Leeds this spring. The daytime menu is packed full of all your breakfast favourites as well as a light lunch menu. In the evening enjoy sharing plates and delicious sourdough pizzas.

Cup of Joe

Need a new spot for your morning cup of Joe? Groke Coffee in Sheffield has joined the fabulous collection of foodie hotspots on Kelham Island. Offering wonderful (and ethical) coffee alongside a streamlined selection of light bites, we can’t wait to stop by.

Green with Envy

A fabulous new health-conscious café has recently opened its doors on York’s Blake Street. At Avocado Envy you can probably guess the focus of the menu, with plenty of topped toast options, as well as a menu crammed with different homemade smoothies.

Class Act

Sleek, contemporary and serving refined dishes, Hull’s brand new Bilocca is a premium dining experience with a twist – the staff are all local college students. The on-the-job training restaurant takes inspiration from Hull’s maritime heritage, producing fresh, delicious dishes all served by the talented students and every meal supports hands-on student learning, nurturing Hull’s community spirit and future stars of the hospitality sector.
