Mowlem and Co share what sets them apart from the competition when it comes to bespoke kitchens, and address the all-important question of costs

We spoke to the team to find out more about their beautiful bespoke kitchens.

Tell us what you do.

For over 30 years, we’ve been designing and crafting bespoke kitchens and architectural joinery. What began as a specialist kitchen company has evolved into a design-led business creating beautifully considered interiors, from individual rooms to whole-home joinery schemes, for private clients, interior designers, developers and trade partners across the UK and beyond. We approach every project as a unique commission. By bringing design, manufacturing and installation together under one roof, we’re able to oversee every stage of the process. That close collaboration between our designers and craftsmen has been at the heart of Mowlem and Co. for more than three decades and continues to define the way we work today.

What sets Mowlem and Co. apart from the competition?

Being genuinely bespoke. That word is often overused, but for us it means complete creative freedom. Every cabinet, every proportion and every detail is designed specifically for each project rather than adapted from a standard range. Just as important is the experience itself. Our dedicated designers take the time to understand how each client lives, creating a highly personal journey with thoughtful guidance at every stage.

What’s the process of creating someone’s dream bespoke kitchen? Where do you start?

Every bespoke kitchen follows its own journey, but the process always begins with the home itself. We look carefully at the architecture, the way the space connects to the rest of the house, and how it needs to function day to day. From there, our designers develop layouts, explore materials, appliances and cabinetry details, gradually shaping a design that balances practicality with beauty. As the design evolves, every element is carefully considered, from internal storage to the smallest finishing details, before the project moves into manufacture.

What kind of budget would someone need for a Mowlem and Co. kitchen?

It’s probably one of the questions we’re asked most often, and one of the biggest misconceptions about bespoke kitchens. While we regularly create large, whole-home schemes with extensive joinery, we also design beautiful bespoke kitchens from around £40,000, depending on the size of the room, the level of detail and the materials selected. Every project is different, so rather than working to fixed packages, we have open conversations about budget from the outset. That allows us to tailor the design and specification to achieve the best possible result without compromising what matters most to the client.

Tell us about a memorable recent project.

Our Knutsford project perfectly captures what we enjoy most about our work. Created in collaboration with the interior design studio Hunter & Bell, it was a home full of confidence and personality, where the kitchen needed to feel beautifully crafted while sitting comfortably within richly layered interiors. Rather than competing with the wider scheme, the joinery was carefully considered to bring balance, warmth and longevity to the space. We also had the opportunity to build not one but two beautiful, curved seating areas which were technically challenging but incredibly rewarding, which we love. Working closely with the interior designer meant every detail, from the cabinetry and finishes to the smallest architectural moments, was resolved as part of one cohesive vision. The result is a home where every element feels connected, considered, and entirely at ease.
