We’ve rounded up must-not-miss events and activities this November, including light trails, Musicals and your first taste of Christmas with Living North's Christmas Fair.

Diary of an Ordinary Place will celebrate the innate human instinct to connect with nature, featuring photographs and a book by Steve Christian. Surrounded by beautiful scenery in Masham, Steve’s inspiration was all around him when creating this exhibition.

This autumn, The Hepworth Wakefield is presenting the first major survey of British photographer Hannah Starkey. Throughout her career, she has choreographed photographs showing how women are represented in contemporary culture. She reveals women in moments of private reflection or social interaction that might otherwise go unseen. In this display, you’ll see photographs from Starkey’s own graduation show in 1997, and a newly commissioned body of work that will be created with young women in Wakefield.

Ahead of the festive celebrations, learn how to expertly craft a festive wreath using specially selected foliage and decorative items. The morning’s activities will be led by Thorp Perrow’s curator Faith Douglas, and all materials and equipment are provided (just come equipped with gardening gloves). The workshop will take place in the Thorp Perrow summerhouse with tea, coffee, mulled wine and mince pies to keep you festively fuelled.

Kick off Christmas with all the family at a magical Glow show at RHS Harlow Carr. Glow 22 opens on 17th November and you can see the garden in a whole new light as you follow the trail and find all the iconic features awash with colour, including the Queen Mother’s Lake were you’ll be wowed by a pixel lawn with hundreds of synchronised dancing lights.

This Christmas Sheffield Cathedral are welcoming back award-winning Luxmuralis for their 2022 light show. This year, the Cathedral will be lit up by The Manger – beautiful imagery with a stunning re-telling of the Christmas story. Perfect for all the family, this beautiful light show is a great way to kickstart the festive season.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of St Nicholas Fair – a staple in York’s streets during the festive period. The famous alpine chalets will line Parliament Street and St Sampson’s Square with 70 local traders selling artisan products.

The Hepworth Wakefield Festive Market is returning to the newly refurbished mill opposite the gallery. You’ll find emerging and established UK-based artists, designers and makers producing work in print, textiles, jewellery, homeware and ceramics. Think stationery, cosmetics and aromatics, plants and floristry – all great gifts for the season. They’ll also be staging an outdoor illumination as part of Wakefield’s Light Up Festival.
