Get into the spirit of Halloween…

We’ve got the best events in the North East and Yorkshire, from terrifying trails to the places to go pumpkin picking. Prefer to wait inside for the trick or treaters to come knocking? Why not get baking with these quirky recipes. And, if you’re carving pumpkins, here’s how to keep them fresh.

Watch a frightening film…

MetFilm School lecturer, Pete Appleyard has compiled his hit list of horror movies spanning the last 100 years. Take your pick here.

Admire cool art…

Love pop art? You’ll love this – the latest in a series of pop art-themed exhibitions at Newcastle University’s Hatton Gallery. Focusing on the screen-printing method that was popular at the time, you’ll discover how Richard Hamilton, Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein created their much-loved, and ever-so vibrant large-scale prints. Expect to see famous works such as Richard Hamilton’s My Marilyn, shown alongside several from Andy Warhol’s Marilyn series, and Roy Lichtenstein’s Brushstrokes.

See a show…

It’s your last chance to see Opera North's Bernstein Double Bill at Leeds Grand Theatre (the last showing is Saturday). Trouble in Tahiti brings the sounds of jazz, musical theatre and the movies together and West Side Story is packed with mambos, waltzes and cha-chas. A walk down memory lane not to be missed.

Make the most of your extra hour…

The last Sunday of October means the clocks go back an hour – so you can look forward to an extra hour in bed! Or you could spend it wisely… carve your pumpkin, do some cleaning, spend it exercising or watch an extra episode of that Netflix show you’re binging. The choice is yours.
