Surrounded by countryside, sea and a beautiful river, there are plenty of walks, including Plessy Woods and some of the UK’s best beaches, all within easy reach. Northumberland boasts fantastic activities for all the family, including stargazing at Kielder Observatory, boat trips to Lindisfarne and learning about the ancient Kingdom of Northumbria at Bamburgh.
After a great day exploring or relaxing on the beach, it’s back to the boutique hotel which comprises of 11 rooms – most with luxurious baths in the bedroom area to relax and enjoy your break (maybe even with a cheeky glass of wine chosen by their wine experts!), as well as beautifully designed ensuites with showers. For those with four-legged friends, some of the rooms are dog-friendly too. Plus, there’s a fully accessible bedroom.
This family-run hotel has built a reputation for being friendly and comfortable, and nothing is too much trouble. For those that are looking for something a little more formal, there’s a stylish restaurant open all week for dinner and from Wednesday to Sunday for lunch. The food is locally sourced and freshly prepared and dishes served include the likes of delicious beer battered cod with chips or Northumbrian lamb rump – and let’s not forget the freshly prepared afternoon tea every Saturday, or the highly reviewed traditional Sunday lunch.
If you’re feeling a bit more relaxed, there’s the gorgeously cosy dog-friendly snug where food is also served, with comfortable leather seating, tables and a great bar. The unique style and décor is what makes Lairds House such a homely and comfortable retreat. If you prefer to be outdoors, Lairds House can cater for that too with its beautiful private enclosed garden with individual handmade wooden pods and tables.
