NE1's Restaurant Week returns from 7th-13th August

With more than 100 restaurants involved it can be hard to know where to book. To help you out we've picked our top 10 choices. Things book up fast, so get your tables reserved soon!

Enjoy a three-course lunch or two-course evening meal for just £20. Award-winning Quayside restaurant, Dobson & Parnell are known for serving boundary-pushing British and European cuisine in their charming restaurant which honours Newcastle’s Victorian architecture stalwarts, John Dobson and William Parnell. Expect chalk stream trout, smoked duck ham or fresh ricotta with grilled courgettes to start, followed by North Sea fishcake, roast chicken or barbecue venison sausage cassoulet. To finish, we recommend the dark chocolate mousse with sour cherries and honeycomb.

Joining in the fun for their first Restaurant Week, newcomers Gaucho will be offering a taste of Argentinian sustainable steaks at a discount. Tuck into three courses for just £20 and enjoy sea bass or beetroot ceviche to start, followed by chorizo sirloin or churrasco cuadril rump steak. Steak not your thing? They also have a classic burger and kale and pesto gnocchi on the menu. Desserts include affogao, dulce flan or chocolate volcano with pistachio ice cream.

Home to award-winning, delicious Indian street food, My Delhi will be serving their authentic, vibrant and authentic flavours at a discount. There are two menus on offer during the week – lunch which includes two street plates or one roadside curry and rice for £10, and in the evening, three street plates or one street plate, one road curry and rice for £15. We recommend the cauliflower Manchurian if you like spice, followed by the creamy butter chicken 1950s for your main.

Take the lift up to Fenwick’s rooftop restaurant bar and enjoy dinner at a discount. The menu includes two courses for £20 and the choice of grilled fillet of mackerel, chorizo and Baron Bigod cheese flatbread or char siu beetroot salad to start, followed by chicken skewers, roast pollock or aubergine steak. Dessert more your style? There’s a chocolate tart, Amalfi lemon posset or charred pineapple with coconut ice cream on the menu.

If you like steak and you like a discount, Tomahawk on Newcastle’s Quayside is where to book for Restaurant Week. Serving their signature Himalayan salt dry-aged rump with a side of fries, diners can indulge over three courses for £20. Parmo croquettas and crispy squid are on the menu for starters, half a roast chicken, wagyu meatballs and halloumi salad can be ordered if you don’t want steak, and Eton mess, chocolate cookie dough and crème brûlée are on the menu for dessert.

Get a taste of France right on your doorstep at The French Quarter. Hidden beneath the arches at the bottom of Westgate Road, this popular restaurant is returning to Restaurant Week offering two courses for £15 or three for £20. Enjoy homemade chicken liver pâté followed by mushroom stroganoff, fillet of sea bass or pork tenderloin, and if you have room for a dessert the homemade chocolate mousse is a must.

For good food made with fresh ingredients, a friendly atmosphere and good beers, look no further than The Broad Chare. Enjoy two courses for £15 at lunch or go all out with three courses in the evening for five pounds more. Our choices would include the summer beans with ham hock, walnuts and mustard dressing to start, followed by spicy black pudding with peas, girolles and a poached egg for main, finishing with the steamed apricot jam sponge and custard.

Get a slice of the action at Square, who serve up delicious Detroit-style pizzas. Served deep and square, their 48-hour dough is cooked in blue steel pans which give the pizza a crispy base, fluffy centre and caramelised cheese crusts. The Restaurant Week deal is a slice, waffle fries, garlic strips and a dip for £10, or go big with two slices for just £5 more.

Since 1998 this Greek kitchen has been serving authentic Greek food in the heart of the city. One of Newcastle’s most popular burger restaurants is getting involved in Restaurant Week offering a starter and burger for just £15. Choose from trash browns, dirty waffles or frickles (fried pickles) to begin, followed by one of their classic beef, chicken or plant-based burgers. Our choice? The Wild Bill Double Patty with American cheese, smoked bacon, waffle fries, barbecue sauce, ranch and jalapeños sandwiched between a brioche bun – you get a choice of fries, chips, tater tots or slaw too so be sure to go with an empty stomach!
