The Pride Events Taking Place Across the North East and Yorkshire

We've rounded up 10 of the best Pride events happening this summer

Following the first ever Pride festival in Hexham, a successful Durham Pride, and the 14th York Pride, here are 10 more Pride events taking place across the North East and Yorkshire.

Happy Valley Pride
10th–30th July

This Queer Arts and Pride festival celebrates LGBTQ+ life in Hebden Bridge and its surrounding areas with national and international artists and local talent, as well as fun activities. From an installation by 23-year-old, non-binary painter and illustrator Ashton Attzs to a colourful flags and bunting workshop and a disco, these events all lead up to the Big Day Out on 29th July where singers, speakers and DJs will put on a show.

Stockton Pop-Up Pride

A group of volunteers and organisers have come together to pilot the first ever Stockton Pop-Up Pride. Presented by LGBTQIA+ arts charity Curious Arts, in partnership with ARC Stockton, Wellington Square Shopping Centre and Stockton Globe, this event will celebrate the Tees Valley’s LGBTQIA+ community through a variety of free and low-cost activities. There’ll be a a pop-up celebration for ages three to seven and their families as well as a Pride Live Stage and a Pop-Up Pride Market with stalls run by local LGBTQIA+ owned businesses.

Pride in the Dales

Grassington is gearing up to host its very first Pride event this July. Throughout the Saturday afternoon, there’s a great line-up of performances and activities as well as face painting, children's workshops, book readings and village games. Plus, don’t miss the Evening Pride Party at Grassington Town Hall where drag queens from the renowned Bar Pop in Manchester will take to the stage, alongside talented locals Rhaya Sunshine and Smashby.

Northern Pride 
22nd & 23rd July

Amelia Lily and Sam Lavery join an exciting list of performers on the United as One main stage at this year’s Northern Pride. The Festival Arena will also feature the BeScene dance and cabaret zone as well as bars and food stalls and a funfair. At The Community Village find the Family and Youth zone and the Health and Wellbeing area, which for the first time will operate across the whole weekend. The Rainbow Village will also have market stalls to browse.

Doncaster Pride

Doncaster Pride's annual event takes place every year in August and this event is a festival of colour, music and variety running from mid-afternoon to the evening. Returning for her 15th Doncaster Pride is host Miss Penny. There’ll be a family zone, a trans zone, a quiet zone and a silent disco as well as the usual entertainment.

Pride at Leeds

Calling itself the UK’s friendliest Pride and Yorkshire's biggest celebration of LGBT+, Leeds Pride is a huge celebration in the city centre. Organisers are looking forward to marking what will be the event’s 18th year and this year’s acts include JLS’s Aston Merrygold and Gok Wan. As well as the impressive parade, there’ll also be market stalls and various performances throughout the day.

Darlington Pride Weekender
12th–14th August

The Darlington Pride Weekender is an all-inclusive, community event including a Pride Festival on Saturday 12th August (a march followed by live music throughout the day, stalls, street theatre and food and drink); Pride in the Park on Sunday 13th August (a picnic and trail for families in South Park); and MonGay Pride on Monday 14th August (including live performances and special guests throughout the night).

Calderdale Pride

The Piece Hall is hosting a free, family-friendly day full of fun with stalls, food and drink and entertainment. Last year there were 22,000 attendees and it’s hoped this year will bring even more people together with hours of entertainment. More details will be announced soon.

Gay Day

Don’t miss the return of Gay Day at The Alnwick Garden for the annual Mr Gay Britain, MX Drag Britain and Mr Gay Europe Finals! This pageant with a twist celebrates all things pride, love and acceptance. Simply book your Garden Entry for 26th August and you’ll have an automatic ticket for Gay Day.

Scarborough Pride

Scarborough Pride hosts events throughout the year for the LGBTQ+ community (including younger and older people), as well as this popular event, aimed at the LGBTQ+ community and their allies. There’ll be plenty of music, entertainment and family-friendly activities taking place throughout the day. More details will be announced soon.
