Review: The Elmer Adventure at Alnwick Playhouse

Everyone's favourite elephant heads to Alnwick Playhouse
Our two mini theatre enthusiasts, four-year-old Mabel and two-year-old Toby, lead the way to our seats eagerly waiting for one of their favourite stories to come to life on stage. The Elmer Adventure runs at just under an hour and is an adaptation of three Elmer books by author and illustrator David McKee.
This isn't Mabel's first Tall Stories production (known for 'The Gruffalo' and 'Room on a Broom' stage shows) and we all have very high standards – luckily the three actors on stage don’t disappoint.
We are taken on a jungle trail to help them find Elmer. There is plenty of audience participation, catchy tunes and laugh-out-loud comedy to keep the young (and dare I say old!) audience engaged.
After a few twists and turns, and brilliant story telling, we eventually find the iconic patchwork elephant stomping onto the stage. His young admirers are in awe as he dances around in puppet form.
This is a great introduction to theatre for young audiences. Why not encourage them to dress in colourful clothes?
