Three words can easily describe the smash hit SIX; fast, fun and feelgood.

For those who like their theatre short and sweet, at 80 minutes (no interval) this one is for you. That’s not to say it doesn’t cover a lot of ground in that time. Each of the six ex-wives of Henry VIII tell their story in an attempt to win the audience’s sympathy and decide who should lead their girl gang pop group.

In this historical reimagining, the wives (no longer wanting to just be remembered as divorced, beheaded, died, divorced, beheaded, survived) take to the mic with biographical pop songs to tell their own story of love and loss in their own way.

The contemporary take on the Tudor costumes adds plenty of sparkle to the dance routines, and together with the fast-paced score and slick routines which garner plenty of audience appreciation – it’s definitely a must-see.

See SIX at Newcastle Theatre Royal in until 23rd August.
