Swallow Fish of Seahouses
Using the very same methods of smoking which were used in the same smokehouses in 1843, and using traditional oak sawdust, with no additives or colourings, the natural flavours of Swallow Fish’s seafood and kippers speak for themselves. As well as kippers, smoked salmon and haddock, you’ll find fresh, seasonal fish in the Seahouses shop.

Latimers Seafood
Home to an award-winning seafood deli with an incredible display of fresh, locally-caught and sustainable fish, shellfish and smoked seafood, what you’ll find here depends on each daily catch, including cod, monkfish, seabass, crabs, lobster and mussels. Look out for their roast smoked salmon which is soaked in a secret brine recipe for an hour before being smoked and cooked for 36 hours to ensure its famous flavour. Now in their fourth generation, this family-business has been specialising in traditional method, oak-smoked kippering for more than 130 years. Hanging the fish in the original smokehouses and curing them above fires made from heaps of whitewood shavings and oak sawdust for 12 to 16 hours gives Craster Kippers their famous golden-brown colour. Visit the fish shop next door to the smokehouses for a variety of fresh fish and seafood, or shop online and get your kippers delivered straight to your door.

Located on North Shields’ Fish Quay, the team at Phil’s Plaice work closely with local fishermen to bring customers the freshest fish and seafood. Lindisfarne Oysters
Available all year round, Lindisfarne Oysters begin life in a hatchery at the size of a thumbnail and are transferred to the oyster beds in the sea just off the island where they can take up to four years to reach maturity. Order 12 to 200 oysters and they will be plucked from the sea, purified and packed into chilled boxes before being delivered straight to your door. Best enjoyed raw, serve your oysters on the half shell with a drizzle of lemon juice and black pepper.

It’s worth checking that their Acomb shop is open before you visit as Ridley’s travel across the North East attending lots of local markets.
