Pick Your Own Pumpkins (a.k.a PYOP) is becoming more and more popular

With a 10-acre patch and more than 80,000 pumpkins to be picked, Spilmans Pumpkin Festival is one of the biggest in the game. In the field they have a selection of pumpkins, squashes and gourds to choose from, or for those who don’t want to get dirty their pumpkin tent has some pre-picked too. And don’t miss the corn cannon blasting cobs at straw bale targets, climbing the hay bale mountain, and why not have a go shooting the castle with their pumpkin slingshot?

Piglets Adventure Farm

With a wide variety to choose from, including Ghost Pumpkins and Atlantic Giant Pumpkins, as well as funny-shaped ones, Piglets Adventure Farm is giving a free home-grown pumpkin to every child aged one and over. Then find your way through the Mysterious Maize or enjoy spook-tacular fun at The Magic Hatter Show, but be sure to come in your best fancy dress for a chance to win an annual membership to the farm.

Pick Your Own Pumpkin is back at Brocksbushes and with an extra patch, it’s bigger and better than ever. Just grab a wheelbarrow, find your perfect pumpkin and pay for it depending on its size. Next, put your skills to the test in the carving marquee (leaving all the mess behind). There will also be rides and games, as well as face painting with some spectacular spooky designs.

Farmer Copley’s

With more than 130,000 pumpkins in more than 27 varieties, there’s a rainbow of pumpkins to choose from at Farmer Copley’s Pumpkin Experience. Once you’re done choosing, there are plenty of other activities to take part in, including a tractor ride, bird of prey shows, archery, storytime, riverside paint-a-pot, fancy dress competitions and photo opportunities galore.

Birchfield Family Dairies

Put your wellies on and grab a wheelbarrow to explore Birchfield Farm’s Pumpkin Festival. Once you’ve made your choice from the patch, let your imagination run wild in the carving barn (and feed the pumpkin flesh to the hungry pigs in the farm yard!). There’s also a six-acre maize maze, bouncy castles, go karts, sandpit, swings and toy tractors to enjoy, not to mention all the farm animals to meet too.

With more than 30,000 pumpkins spread out over 20 acres, and 17 varieties in six colours – you’re spoilt for choice at East Grange. With full- and kids-sized wheelbarrows this is the perfect autumn day out for all the family. Be sure to book your tickets early though, as once they run out of pumpkins that’s it until next year!

With unpredictable autumn weather, pumpkin picking Down At The Farm is a great option for rainy days as their patch is actually indoors. You can then carve your pick under shelter too. Head to the spooky fun house filled with surprises, or follow the trail to win a treat (not a trick).

PYO days are weather permitting and while stocks last, but don’t worry if you can’t make it as the farm shop is open regardless of weather. Let them take care of the mess by booking a Pumpkin Carving Experience, taking home not only your masterpiece, but a carving kit too.
